About National Service Scheme (NSS)
The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Sector Scheme of Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. It provides opportunity to the student youth of 11th & 12th Class of schools at +2 Board level and student youth of Technical Institution, Graduate & Post Graduate at colleges and University level of India to take part in various Government led community service activities & programmes. The primary objective of developing the personality and character of the student youth through voluntary community service. ‘Education through Service’ is the purpose of the NSS. NSS was launched in 1969 in 37 Universities involving about 40,000 volunteers which has now spread over 657 Universities and 51 +2 Councils / Directorates, covering 20,669 Colleges / Technical Institutions and 11,988 Senior Secondary School. Since inception, over 7.4 crore students have benefitted from NSS.
The National Service Scheme has been implemented at Government Agricultural College, Nandurbar since the academic year 2014-2015, and a total of 50 volunteer units have been approved in the college.
While the work of building an effective personality of the youth while pursuing college education is being done through the education sector, the work of instilling a sense of social commitment and service spirit among the youth is being done through the National Service Scheme initiative at the college level. Through many socially useful programs like (Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Shram-daan, Majhi Vasundhara Bhiyan, Blood Donation Camp, AIDS Awareness Campaign, Health Checkup and Beti Bachao Abhiyan etc.). The National Service Scheme Volunteer Unit at Government Agricultural College, Nandurbar is successfully working to instill a sense of social service in the minds of students and to bring about their all-round development.

Regular Activities:
- Celebration of various days from time to time viz., International Yoga day, World tribal day, Organ Donation Awareness Programme, Fit India-Freedom Run Movement Awareness Programme, Organ donation day, National Unity Day, Teacher’s day, World AIDS day, NSS Foundation day, Independence Day, Republic day, International Women’s day, etc.
- The series of guest lectures on various topics are being organized for the overall social and personality development of the NSS volunteers.
- Every year the ‘Tree plantation programme’ is being organized during the month of June, July and August to sensitize students about global warming and to promote green earth initiative among them.
- Undertaking Shramadan/ Cleaning campaign from time to time under the “Swachh Bharat Mission” “Mazi Vasundhara Abhiyan” in which the college campus, hostel premises, lecture halls, roads, civil hospital etc. are kept clean and tidy and the collected dried leaves and other biomass is used for composting.
- Collection of glass and plastics is done regularly and the collected plastic is being sent for recycling.
- Formation of ‘Red Ribbon Club’ and ‘Electoral Literacy Club’ at College level.
- ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ the event was held on the occasion of 75th Anniversary of India’s Independence to orient faculty and students regarding independent India (Aatmanirbhar Bharat) and to spread awareness among students about contribution of our freedom fighter for independence.
- Every year the blood donation programme is being organized and volunteers donate blood enthusiastically.
Special Camp Activities:
The seven days residential special camp is being organized every year in the adopted village where various programme are undertaken as follows:
- Cleaning of roads, schools, temples and gram panchayat premises.
- Guest lectures on various topics.
- Saplings plantation programme
- Shramadan constructing loose structure boulders on hillside area and Nala Bunding with the help of Villagers.
- Rallies for awareness on various social issues among the public
- Cultural programme on social theme students performed street plays/Nukkad nataks.
- Visits to different places for social development of volunteers.

Special contribution/awards/achievements
- 1. “Best NSS Volunteer” (Boys) award was awarded to volunteer Mr. Jadhav Tanmay Sanjeev during the participation in State Level Camp organised during 20-26, February, 2020 at Galane (Historical Place), Tal. Malegaon, Dist. Nashik.
- “Best Group Dancer” (Girl) award was awarded to volunteer Miss. Sabale Nandini Manilal during the participation in National Integration Camp organised during 21-27, March, 2022 at Agriculture College, Bawal, Rewari (Haryana).
- Created awareness among the public for enrollment and getting Voters ID.
- During the Covid-19 NSS volunteers created awareness among the public for vaccines and help them for online registration and get vaccinated.
- “Best NSS Volunteer” award for the year 2018-19. was awarded to volunteers (Boy) Mr. Wagh Nirmalkumar Sukhlal and (Girl) Miss. Jadhav Komal Gurujagdish.
- “Best NSS Volunteer” award for the year 2019-20. was awarded to volunteers (Boy) Mr. Jadhav Tanmay Sanjeev and (Girl) Miss. Deshmukh Namita Nandkishor.
- “Best NSS Volunteer” award for the year 2020-21. was awarded to volunteers (Boy) Mr. Suryawanshi Yogesh Ramchandra and (Girl) Miss. Shelkande Shradha Chindha.
- “Best NSS Volunteer” award for the year 2021-22. was awarded to volunteers (Boy) Mr. Sabale Rahul Ratan / Gavit Vijay Kisan and (Girl) Miss. Bhakre Prajkta Balasaheb.
- “Best NSS Volunteer” award for the year 2022-23. was awarded to volunteers (Boy) Mr. Pardeshi Tejas Indal and (Girl) Miss. Pawara Divya Shivdas.
- Appointment of Programme Officer from this College as a Team Manager of all the four Agril. Universities NSS Volunteers participated in AVHAN Camp which was held at Kavayitri Bahinabai Chaudhari North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon Dist. Jalgaon, during 19-28 December, 2022.
Benefit:
The volunteers are greatly benefited by various NSS activities. Change in the attitude and personality through various lecture series on different topics, building self-confidence among the volunteers. It helps volunteers to imbibe self-discipline. A volunteer gets opportunity to represent themselves in the State and National level camps. It makes students socially awaken.
